Mr. Giwa-Osagie is the Senior and Founding Partner of Giwa-Osagie & Co and has appeared before all superior courts of record in Nigeria. He graduated from the University of Warwick, Coventry England in 1985. He was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1986. In 2020, he was conferred with the rank of a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) which is the equivalent of a King’s Counsel in England.

With over 39 years of distinguished experience, Mr. Giwa-Osagie has advised state governments, local firms, and international companies on high stakes transactions, including oil and gas projects, where he advised both domestic and foreign entities. His publication, “Doing Business in the Oil and Gas Industry in Nigeria: A Bird’s Eye View,” underscores his thought leadership.

Mr. Giwa-Osagie is also widely known for his deep knowledge of Nigeria's capital markets and infrastructure. He is a member of the Capital Markets Solicitors Association.

He has built a strong practice in aviation law. For many years, he has represented foreign and domestic carriers in legal matters, including passenger and cargo claims.

  • He advised an international airline operating in Nigeria on the lease of a multi-million-dollar property for commercial use. The scope of work included a comprehensive review of the lease agreement and negotiation of favourable terms on the client's behalf.
  • He is currently retained as a solicitor to a Foreign Mission on Employment/labour law matters.
  • He was the lead counsel that advised an Embassy on the acquisition of 49,340 sqms of land in Eko Atlantic City, Victoria Island, Lagos for diplomatic use.
  • He was appointed as Transaction Solicitor to the Lender in a high-profile loan transaction in the sum of $41.5 Million. The transaction involved drafting and review of a Bridge Facility Agreement, Legal Opinion on Enforceability of the Transaction Documents, Share Charge Agreement, Shareholder Resolutions, Standard Guarantee Agreement, and other corporate documents.
  • He was appointed as a receiver in the recovery of a shipping vessel for the settlement of a multi-million dollar debt. The transaction involved advising the creditor and drafting a bareboat charter agreement. He was also involved in negotiating and concluding a repayment structure for the debt successfully.
