Overview:

  • Maryland Purple Line P3 project.
  • The Maryland Purple Line has reached a financial close of $2 billion. 
  • The P3 light rail project will run over a 16-mile span in metropolitan Washington DC, from New Carrollton, Maryland to Bethesda, Maryland. 
  • Financing included an $875 million TIFIA loan and a $313 million Private Activity Bonds green bond. 
  • Purple Line Transit Partners (PLTP) is the developer, in collaboration with the Maryland Department of Transportation.
  • PLTP is a consortium, consisting of Meridiam Infrastructure, Fluor Enterprises and the Star America Fund. 
  • This is Maryland's first P3 transit project. 
  • The line is expected to begin running in 2022.
