Overview:

  • Bumbuna 50MW hydroelectric power plant expansion (202MW) PPP.
  • The government of Sierra Leone has signed an agreement to expand its 50MW Bumbuna hydroelectric power plant.
  • The project is being developed using a public-private partnership model (PPP).
  • Endeavor Energy and Joule Africa were jointly sponsoring the project but the former bought out the latter's interest in 2016. 
  • A tender process for the EPC contract saw Salini Impregilo and Hycrochina-Sinohydro selected as preferred bidders. 
  • EU Africa Infrastructure Trust Fund is providing technical assistance and financing the Government of Sierra Leone's costs. 
  • The project is expected to reach financial close in the latter half of 2017.
