Milbank Tweed Hadley & McCloy has recuited a Hengeler Mueller partner for its Munich office.

Private equity partner Steffen Oppenländer has been hired from the German firm's London branch, where he had been advisng on the German law elements of cross border buy-out transactions. He joined Hengeler Muelller more than a decade ago, moving to the firm's City branch in 2013.

Oppenländer is Milbank's second recent private equity partner in Germany. In late 2016 the US firm added Allen & Overy's Michael Bernhardt to its Frankfurt team.

Oppenländer becomes the second partner to leave Hengeler Mueller in the last 18 months. Munich corporate partner Achim Herfs moved to Kirkland & Ellis' office in the city in the first half 2016 with a counsel and senior associate.

Henegeler Mueller has two partners remaining in London - neither focus on private equity. The firm has a substantial, partner heavy corporate practice in Germany, with a number of private equity specialists.
