After a 12-year break owing to international sanctions placed on Myanmar, LWA Consultants reopened its office in Myanmar under the name Lucy Wayne & Associates (LWA).

Name partner and founder Lucy Wayne relocated to Asia in 1992 to manage Indochina Consulting Services’ office in Ho Chi Minh City. Two years later she opened her own firm in Vietnam, LWA, and expanded into Myanmar in 1995.

Since the firm’s closure in 2002 Wayne continued to be highly active on Vietnam related transactions, with a particular focus on power generation and petroleum matters. Wayne has now taken up permanent residency in Myanmar and is joined in full equity partnership with former colleague and corporate lawyer Win Naing.

“The decision to reopen LWA was prompted by client requests for higher-quality, practical legal advice on the ground in Myanmar,” Wayne said in a statement. “We understand that this can only be achieved by having a fully locally-integrated law firm in place in Myanmar.”

Wayne is qualified in England and Wales and has received notable accolades including one in 2005 from Queen Elizabeth II for her services to British business interests in Vietnam. She was also appointed a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire.
