Gibson Dunn & Crutcher has hired a new energy lawyer in London.

Anna Howell, an IFLR1000 Leading Lawyer, joins the team from Herbert Smith Freehills where she was co-head of energy since 2015.

She focuses on M&A, finance and project development matters in the oil and gas, LNG and energy sectors. She is dual qualified in England and Wales and Hong Kong.

Work highlights include advising EON on the sale of its shares in its UK E&P upstream portfolio; advising Carlyle International Energy Partners on its acquisition of the Romanian business of Sterling Resources; CNPC on its acquisition of a 28.57% stake in Eni East Africa; and BP on its acquisition from Statoil of a 3.3% stake in the Shah Deniz project in Azerbaijan.

Howell's departure follows a similar move by her fellow co-head of energy John Balsdon who joined Latham & Watkins earlier in 2017.
