DLA Piper has recruited a partner and five members of his team from Baker McKenzie for its Antwerp office.

Banking and finance partner Pierre Berger has been hired from the Belgian branch of the Chicago-born firm, where he had headed the Belgian and EMEA financial services and insurance practice. He had earlier joined the firm in 2001 and worked across its offices in Antwerp and Brussels.

Berger has significant experience in the regulatory finance and insurance sectors, and has acted for a number of Belgian and international banks and insurance companies, alongside growing fintech and insuretech companies.

The other lawyers joining Berger at DLA Piper are senior lead lawyer Isabelle Van Biesen; lead lawyer Simon Landuyt; lawyers Pauline Kustermans and Stéphanie Liebaert; and trainee lawyer Caroline Fabri.

Baker McKenzie has stated that its Belgian financial services and insurance practice would now be managed by banking and finance partners Antoine De Raeve and Michael Van Acker, alongside associate Olivier Van den Broeke.
