Starting with an acquisition in the United States - Lumentum has acquired Oclaro for $1.7 billion. Lumentum is a parts supplier to Apple and aims to further expand its laser offerings portfolio.

Dana and GKN automotive, meanwhile, have undertaken merger procedures valued at $6.1 billion. The deal comes after a hostile takeover bid from Melrose Industries.GKN will get $1.6 billion through the deal, while Dana will take on $1 billion in pension liabilities and issue $3.5 billion of shares to GKN investors. 

 

Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA)

Moving to Europe, RWE has undertaken an asset swap in Germany. Innogy’s assets will be split between EON and RWE. The sector needs drastic restructuring plans due to Merkel’s decision to abandon all nuclear power.

Moving to Spain, Telefónica has undertaken a $2 billion notes issue. The issue consisted of $750 million 4.665% notes due 2038 and $1.25 billion 4.895% notes due 2048, both listed on the NYSE. The issuer is one of the largest and most modern telecommunication networks worldwide.
