CMS Hasche Sigle has recruited a corporate partner from Clifford Chance in Frankfurt.

Wolfgang Richter will be the sixth partner to leave the 'magic circle' firm’s German offering this year when he makes the switch to CMS on May 1.

Richter focuses on corporate governance, capital markets, M&A and restructuring. He joined the firm in 1989 and made partner in 1993.

Richter and CMS share at least one large client in Volkswagen, which Richter advised on its merger with Porsche and its €2 billion capital increase last year, among other transactions.

Clifford Chance had already seen five corporate partners leave its German team this year before Richter’s exit. At the start of the month, Peter Rosin and Thomas Burmeister moved to White & Case, and former German corporate head Arndt Stengel joined Milbank Tweed Hadley & McCloy. These departures were preceded by that of global join private equity head Oliver Felsenstein and private equity partner Burc Hesse to Latham & Watkins in February.

Recently-elected German managing partner, Peter Dieners, instigated a review of the firm's German operation last year. Nine partners were reportedly in discussions abut their futures with the firm so more resignations are anticipated.
