US firm Orrick Herrington & Sutcliffe has added a new partner to its Hong Kong office to boost the firm’s private funds offering.

Scott Peterman joins the firm from Jones Day where he had acted for private fund sponsors and investors in the formation of alternative investment vehicles, including private equity funds, infrastructure and real estate funds, and hedge funds.

David Halperin, Orrick's Hong Kong office leader said: “Scott has a well-earned reputation as a leading practitioner. We are thrilled to add him to our team as we continue to build our China Corporate platform. I’m very excited by Orrick’s vision for its Asia platform and the firm’s global focus on serving the technology, energy & infrastructure and finance sectors.”

Peterman had previously worked at Kirkland & Ellis and Sidley Austin, and gained experience acting for Chinese state owned and private companies, especially in China’s technology sector. His work includes M&A transactions, and counseling FinTech start-ups.

He is the sixth partner to join Orrick’s global M&A practice in the past 12 months and will be the firm’s fifth partner in Hong Kong, with the addition of M&A partner Mark Lehmkuhler being the most recent. The firm is rebuilding after it lost nine partners in Hong Kong at the start of the year to Morgan Lewis & Bockius.
