Global law firm Dentons has merged with independent Malaysian firm Zain & Co.

This development is part of Dentons’ strategy to consolidate its presence in South East Asia—where it already has offices in Singapore and Myanmar—as the combination now gives Dentons' clients access to its lawyers in 74 countries.

Elliott Portnoy, Global CEO of Dentons, remarked: “The launch of this combination with a truly high-quality firm in Malaysia gives us an even stronger presence in South East Asia and will further allow Dentons to pursue its strategy to become a pan-Asian law firm that reaches more of Asia than its competitors.”

Zain & Co is a full-service Malaysian firm that focuses on banking and finance (including Islamic finance), corporate matters, dispute resolution, real estate and intellectual property. The firm is also tapping into growing practice areas such as cybersecurity and blockchain technology.

Over the past few years Dentons has been aggressively expanding its global presence with new combinations in Latin American countries such as Chile and in ASEAN countries such as Indonesia.
