John W. Finley is a partner in the firm’s Investment Funds Group, with broad experience in private fund formation and various legal, compliance and operational matters related to the management and investment activities of private funds and their sponsors and advisers. Mr. Finley has assisted clients with the formation of numerous US and non-US investment funds, including hedge funds, hybrid funds, private equity funds, commodity pools and funds of funds.
He also has formed and regularly advises numerous investment management companies in connection with their sponsorship and management of such funds. Matters on which he has regularly advised such clients include SEC and CFTC compliance matters and the negotiation and documentation of a wide variety of portfolio investments, trading relationships and strategic transactions (including seeding arrangements, spin-outs and joint ventures). He also regularly counsels institutional investors and family offices on a broad range of alternative investment transactions and regulatory compliance matters.
Mr. Finley previously served for several years as in-house counsel to an international investment management firm.
