Patrick is a partner in the Finance and Capital Markets Department at Matheson.  He advises on banking, structured finance, leveraged finance and other debt finance related transactions and provides regulatory advice to banks and other financial services institutions.

Patrick regularly contributes articles to financial services and banking publications and has spoken at a number of finance conferences.  He also lectures on banking and finance law subjects for a number of educational and industry bodies

  • regularly advising arrangers, lenders and borrowers in relation to a syndicated and bilateral credit transactions involving leading Irish corporates or Irish assets;
  • advising a number of sponsors and underwriters in relation to asset backed securitisations involving Irish commercial property backed loans, home loans and other assets;
  • advising in relation to a number of private placements of debt securities by Irish state owned entities and Irish corporates;
  • advising Bank of Ireland on its acquisition of loan books, deposits and other assets and businesses of KBC Bank Ireland;
  • advising Strategic Banking Corporation of Ireland (SBCI) in relation to all legal aspects of the implementation of the Home Energy Upgrade Loan Scheme and the Growth and Sustainability Loan Scheme including the negotiation of a guarantee between the EIF and SBCI and a number of back-to-back guarantee agreements between SBCI and several Irish financial institutions;
  • advising the European Investment Bank in relation to the provision of a number of credit facilities to Irish companies;
  • advising the European Commission in relation to the ongoing provision of Irish law guarantees to support a variety of lending and other credit schemes (involving KfW, the International Finance Corporation, the EBRD, the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and a number of others);
  • advising syndicates of lenders as well as borrowers in relation to the debt funding of large-scale infrastructural projects including wind farms and roads projects;
  • advising a number of Irish and international credit institutions in relation to the sale of loan portfolios and has also advised a number of acquirers and financiers of loan sale transactions; and
  • advising acquirers and lenders in relation to a number of management / leveraged buyouts of public limited companies as well as private companies.
