Louise is a partner in the Financial Institutions Group, specialising in financial services regulation. Louise regularly advises banks, MiFID investment firms, asset managers, fund promoters, fintech firms, payment and e-money institutions, trading platforms, intermediaries and brokers on all aspects of Irish and EU financial regulation and compliance and related matters.

Prior to joining Matheson, Louise was a UK general counsel for a Swiss private bank in London and worked in the financial services group at Ashurst in London. Louise also was a regulatory change secondee at an Investment Bank in London.

  • Advice to financial institutions on compliance with industry guidance, legislation and codes issued by the Central Bank of Ireland, regulatory capital and prudential requirements, asset disposal projects by Irish and international clients, ongoing compliance with conduct of business, client asset rules, consumer protection, fitness and probity requirements and other requirements, anti-money laundering, and financial institution M&A.
  • Obtains licences and licence extensions for banks, investment firms, asset managers, fintech firms, market operators, e-money and payment firms, intermediaries, retail credit firms and assists with newly authorised firm set up and carrying on business under the Irish and EU regulatory framework, including Brexit contingency plans.
  • Assists with corporate governance reviews, risk and compliance reviews, culture and conduct risk reviews, fitness and probity issues, including Central Bank investigations and administrative sanctions.  Louise has carried out comprehensive assurance reviews to manage regulatory risk, including assisting with risk mitigation programmes, Central Bank inspections and thematic reviews.
