Angelos was born in Limassol, Cyprus. He graduated in law from London Southbank University, was awarded an LL.M in Commercial & Corporate Law from University College London (UCL) and he is a Barrister-at-Law of Gray’s Inn, London (2001).  He is the managing director of AGP Law Firm and the AGP Group of Fiduciary Services.

Angelos is heading the AGP Commercial & Corporate Practice; he has many years of experience on corporate and commercial areas of the law, both in consulting and in representing clients in complex and high profile disputes in District and Supreme Courts, as well as on International Arbitration centers.  He is an authorised Insolvency Practitioner member of the Association of Insolvency Practitioners of Cyprus since 2015, and a certified trust and estate practitioner, member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), holder of the title TEP.

Additionally to the above, Angelos is also a lead member of the AGP Financial Regulation & Advisory Practice, representing local and international Investment Firms and Payment Institutions.

Angelos further handles matters involving local and international tax, trusts & trustee matters, corporate structuring, finance & banking law, real estate and foreign investments in Cyprus.  He advises on a wide range of tax and estate matters, including creating structures to hold assets, minimise tax and maximise protection of such assets.  He frequently acts for high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth individuals, entrepreneurs and companies.

Capital markets / Corporate Finance 

  • Angelos advises clients on full range of transactions on the capital markets sphere, through issuance of equity or/and debt instruments.  During mid-2017-2018 Angelos advised on the restructuring of a revolving credit facility between our clients and Alfa-Bank Russia valued at USD110 million;
  • Angelos, assisted by Margarita Sofokleous, has advised our client, a Cyprus holding company being the major shareholder in a Russian telecommunication company, on its instar-group financial restructuring valued at USD 250 million.

M&A

  • Angelos, assisted by other members of AGP, including Margarita Sofokleous and Panagiotis Zevlaris, advises on the full range of private M&A, both domestic and cross-border;
  • Angelos is currently handling the acquisition of a Financial Services Firm headquartered in Malta – the process includes setting up a private equity fund in Cyprus and acquisition of the Financial Services institution in Maltra; Matter vlued at over €5 million;
  • Engaged by XX Limited we have handled the entire process for the acquisition of XXX BVBA.  Angelos acted as lead member of our firm on the preparation and drafting of all sets of agreements for successful acquisition, including an Escrow Agreement and escrow appointment.  Matter valued at USD 5 million;
  • Angelos acted as lead member of AGP for the preparation of multiple agreements aiming to the sale and purchase of participatory interests of our clients in the chapter capital of limited liability company XXX, a franchise hotel owning company in Ukraine.  Our clients through an SPV held a substantial real estate in -the centre of Kiev which they sold through a number of sale and acquisition agreements handled by AGP.   Matter valued at USD 20 million;
  • We have been engaged for the acquisition process of a betting joint venture in Russia through a Cyprus holding entity; matter valued at over USD 100 million.

Angelos Paphitis 

  • Angelos has been advising clients in multiple types of project developments, predominantly in the real estate sector. He has consulted multinational groups as well as individual investors in different ways of real estate finance as well as on the setting up of Property Funds;
  • Overall value of invested funds based on Angelos consultation during 2018 has exceeded 45 million euros.   

Restructuring and insolvency

  • Angelos frequently acts as liquidator, or for liquidators, administrators, receivers and trustees in all aspects of liquidation work in Cyprus as well as abroad.  Angelos undertakes liquidation procedures in Cyprus as well as in the UK, BVI, Seychelles, Belize, New Zealand and other jurisdictions;
  • Angelos Paphitis regulated by the Cyprus Insolvency Practitioners Association, under the Insolvency Practitioners Law of 2015;
  • During 2018 Angelos has so far undertaken over 10 voluntary liquidations which are in the process of completion.  During 2017 he finalised in total 17 voluntary liquidations.
