Shook Lin & Bok’s building construction and engineering practice group represents a range of clients include local and international contractors and developers, as well as government related bodies. The firm is active in both conventional and renewable energy.

A key project saw the firm advise a Malaysian public company on the design, construction, maintenance, operation and management of a solid waste to renewable energy plant.

 

Financial and corporate

Shook Lin & Bok has been through some staffing change in the past year including the hire of financial regulatory expert Karen Kaur from Hong Kong based Deacons and the launch of a new building, construction and engineering department led by Hoh Kiat Ching from the corporate banking and finance team.

In the capital markets highlights include advising an unnamed client on an issue of RM1 billion subordinated Islamic MTNs; and advising Bank Kerjasama Rakyat Malaysia as obligor in the issuance of subordinated sukuk murabaha (Islamic bond deferred sale) by Mumtaz Rakyat Sukuk.

In M&A, highlights include work for a BVI incorporated company in the acquisition of a hotel in Kuala Lumpur for RM418 million.
