The origins of McCann FitzGerald date back to 1947 in Dublin, but the firm has expanded internationally and now also has branches in Brussels, London and New York from which it advises on Irish law.

During the research period the firm has been active in banking and finance, capital markets, corporate and M&A, projects development, and restructuring and insolvency. 

In asset finance it has worked in the aviation sector mainly on joint ventures, debt restructurings, mergers and financings. It has advised respectively, shareholders in joint ventures, companies under restructuring, acquirers and borrowers. 

In banking and finance, the firm has advised the borrowers in respect to development financing and finance facilities, sustainability linked revolving credit facilities, acquisition financings, investment platforms, and bilateral committed term facility agreements. For the lenders it advised in respect to transactions such as development and acquisition finance, refinancing of the existing syndicated facilities, and term loan facilities. In project finance it worked on behalf of lenders but also borrowers on financing and refinancing of projects in renewable energy and infrastructure sector, and also in transport, property development, TMT, education.

In capital markets it has been active in capital market’s equity, debt and structured finance’s area. In capital markets debt it advised mainly the issuer but also the arranger and the guarantor on private placements, green private placements, green bonds. In equity it has advised mainly the issuer on share placements from companies in aviation sector, renewable infrastructure, real-estate. In structured finance it worked on behalf of both the issuer and the arranger on transactions including mortgage covered securities programme, asset-backed notes, securities backed by trade receivables, secured notes.

In corporate and M&A it acted on behalf of buyers, sellers, shareholders on transactions such as equity investments, acquisitions, sales, spin outs. It worked on projects in various sectors including technology, finance, pharma, energy.          

In financial services regulatory it advised on authorization of new entities and on regulatory matters. Among its clients are mainly firms in banking and finance, focusing on credit servicing and payments.

In investment funds it worked on behalf of credit managers, asset managers, investment managers and sponsors on the financing, the establishment and the launch of various funds such as UCITS CCF, closed-ended QIAIF, as well as, provided regulatory advice on transactions and authorizations of MiFID top-up services. It also advised investment managers on complex structures such as ICAV umbrella fund with three initial sub-funds. 

In project development the firm advised on contract related to the design and implementation of projects, PPP procedures, EPC contracts, procurement procedures. It advised mainly developers on projects in various sectors with a particular emphasis on energy and renewables energy as well as on social infrastructure. 

In restructuring and insolvency it worked on examinerships, schemes of arrangements, liquidations, Chapter 11 bankruptcy plans in various sectors. It advised distressed companies, first lien lenders, liquidators, investors and creditors.
