Overview:

  • Berkshire Hathaway issued $12 billion of notes. 
  • The notes were issued in 10 tranches with due dates ranging from 2 to 12 years.
  • This included the offer of $5.5 billion of notes, €2.75 billion of notes and BHFC’s offering of $3.5 billion in both fixed and floating rate notes.
  • BofA Merrill Lynch, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan and Wells Fargo Securities acted as underwriters. 
  • The company used to proceeds from the notes to repay a $10 billion bank loan. This loan was used to finance part of its acquisition of Precision Castparts.
  • The company also used the proceeds to refinance its $300 million 2.2% notes due 2016 and replace its $500 million 2.45% notes due 2015.
