Overview:

  • The North-South Railway Project (NSRP) is the largest PPP project in the Philippines to date.
  • The project involves the construction, finance, operation and maintenance of a 653 km long railway linking Metro Manila with provinces in Southern Luzon, the largest island in the Philippines.
  • The NSRP will consist of a commuter railway and a long-haul rail, and is intended at alleviating the traffic of Metro Manila’s roads, improving connectivity to areas outside the capital district.
  • The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) agreed to provide advice to the Department of Transportation and Communications on the PPP structure and the bidding process.
