Batoka Gorge 2400MW hydroelectric power plant

Overview:

• Batoka Gorge 2400MW hydroelectric power plant.
• Located on the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe, 54km downstream from Victoria falls and upstream of the Kariba hydroelectric power plant, the project will see the construction of a 181m high dam and two generators, one on each side of the border.
• The original capacity of the project was 1600MW but this was expanded in early 2015 to 2400MW.
• The size of the project should allow both Zambia and Zimbabwe to become electricity exporters.
• The African Development Bank is acting as lead financial adviser on the project.
