Squire Patton Boggs has hired a new energy and natural resources partner in London.

Neil Upton joins the firm from King & Wood Mallesons where he had led the UK and Europe energy, infrastructure and project finance teams.

Upton focuses on project development, M&A, project finance and regulatory work in the energy, oil and gas and LNG sectors.

Work highlights include advising on the development and financing of a coal-fired power plant in Botswana; solar plants in Uganda and Kenya; advising on a major gas supply pipeline in Central and Eastern Europe and on the power interconnector in the Gulf States.

Joining Upton at his new firm are a team including Sushma Maharaj, (oil and gas, LNG); Jasdeep Puri (oil and gas, energy; associate Francis Iyayi, (infrastructure, energy); and associate Maurice Katsigazi (energy, midstream oil and gas).

The move comes at a challenging time for KWM as it deals with financial issues in its European business.
