Ashurst has hired a restructuring and insolvency partner from CMS Hasche Sigle in Munich.

Alexander Ballmann focuses on insolvency work and distressed M&A. A partner at CMS since 2006, his recent work includes leading a team representing the insolvency administrator on one of the largest bankruptcies of 2014, that of the Scherer & Trier Group.

Ashurst’s German team has seen a number of staffing changes in the last six months. The firm has hired two other new partners: M&A specialist Thomas Sacher joined from Beiten Burkhardt and regulatory partner, Detmar Loff, was hired from Allen & Overy. Last November four partners - Marc Bohne, Peter Junghänel, Stephan Kock, who led Ashurst's German finance practice, and Lars Jessen - left to launch Goodwin Procter’s first German branch.
