Varsha Boodhoo is a barrister specialising in corporate and commercial law. She holds a degree in law and criminology from the University of Kent. She did her Bar Vocational Course at the University of West of England, Bristol and was called to the bar at Middle Temple, UK in 2009 and at the Supreme Court of Mauritius in January 2011. She joined Bedell Cristin (Mauritius) Partnership in the same year and was appointed senior associate in 2015. In 2016, she joined YKJ Legal as a partner.

She has strong experience in corporate and commercial law and has worked on a wide variety of transactional matters relating to banking and finance, trust, acquisitions, regulatory matters and cross border transactions. She also advises on investment funds focusing on the African and Asian market. She advises a wide range of clients including banks, high net worth individuals and corporates.

  • Advised the Greenko Group in connection with a $940 million overseas bond issue with bids over $2 billion. Greenko is one of India’s leading Renewable Energy companies, replacing fossil fuels with integrated decarbonized energy and grid assets enabling sustainable and affordable energy, with a net installed capacity of 7.2 GWdc across 15 States in India.
  • Advised Ethos Capital (listed on JSE) on a R700 million loan facility
  • Advised the Bank of Nova Scotia in connection with a USD550 million loan facility to a major group involved in property and insurance
  • Advises Ares SSG Capital Management Group on M&A, commercial and regulatory matters. The group is a leading global alternative investment manager listed on NYSE with approximately $341 billion of assets under management.
  • Advises the Capital Limited Group listed on LSE which is leading service provider for the exploration and mining industry providing drilling and mining services across Africa on financing transactions and regulatory matters.
