Legal counsel in respect to the multicurrency green medium term note programme (Kijani Bond) issued by CRDB Bank Plc, one of the largest and leading banks in Tanzania. This is the first and largest green bond to be listed on the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE). Our legal support was all encompassing for both the issuer and arranger and included conducting a comprehensive legal due diligence of the Issuer, advising on and assisting the Issuer to obtain the necessary regulatory approvals from the Bank of Tanzania, the Capital Markets and Securities Authority and the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange (DSE), drafting the transactional documents issuing the legal opinion as well as providing legal advice on the transaction.
The Kijani Bond is a green investment opportunity offered by CRDB Bank, representing the largest green bond in Tanzania and Sub-Saharan Africa. It offers an unprecedented 10.25% interest rate, demonstrating the bank's commitment to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles. The bond is accessible to all, with a minimum initial investment of just TZS 500,000, and has been subscribed by 429.55%, raising Sh171.82 billion against an initial target of Sh40 billion.
