Borenius in Helsinki has hired a partner to head up its Finnish capital markets team.

Juha Koponen joins the firm from Castrén & Snellman where he was focused on debt, equity and M&A work. He had previously worked at both Fried Frank Harris Shriver & Jacobson and at Nokia as a securities expert.

His past experience includes advising Sanitec on its IPO, Outokumpu on a rights offering and high yield issues for First Quantum Minerals and the Sappi Group.

In the IFLR1000 2014 edition he was recognised as a rising star for capital markets work.

Speaking of the move Koponen said: "Borenius has lately boosted its capital markets practice and this supports the firm's strong private equity practice as initial public offerings are again seen as a genuine alternative exit track to trade sales, and similarly bond financings are seen as an alternative or supplement to pure loan structures in acquiring and financing target companies."

"Our goal is to be the best possible Finnish law firm partner for issuers as well as domestic and international investment banks in large securities offerings having an international component."

Borenius managing partner Jari Vikiö said: "With this appointment we strengthen our team of experts in order to better serve our clients in the field of financing and capital markets. We have recently acted for our long-term clients Aspo, CapMan, and PKC Group in debt offerings and for Tulikivi, Scanfil and PKC Group in equity offerings. We believe that the volume of the capital markets offerings will continue to increase in the future."
