Overview:

  • Centene has acquired fellow health insurer WellCare Health Plans in a $15.27 billion deal. 
  • The new entity will serve 22 million members. 
  • Barclays provided Centene with $8.35 billion in credit facilities to help finance the deal. 
  • Allen & Company, Barclays, Evercore and JP Morgan Securities acted as financial advisers for Centene while Goldman Sachs advised WellCare. 
  • The transaction is expected to close in the first half of 2019.
