Bangalore-based law firm Universal Legal has expanded its presence in India with the opening of a new office in Ahmedabad.
Aayush Modi will be the partner in charge at the Ahmedabad office, which becomes the firm’s sixth office in the country alongside its other offices in Bangalore, Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi and Chandigarh.
Modi graduated in 2007 from GLC Mumbai and holds an LLM degree from the University of Southern California. He worked with Universal Legal’s affiliate, the US-based Chugh Firm for a year in 2010 and later joined Indian law firm Nanavati Associates before joining Universal Legal.
Other large Indian law firms have also chosen the city as a location for new offices, which has transformed Ahmedabad into an important economic and industrial district in India in recent years. J Sagar Associates (JSA) opened a new office in the city this January while legacy Amarchand Mangaldas opened in 2012, with its spin-offs Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co and Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas still operating in the city.
