Mr. Varela’s experience includes advising in major areas of infrastructure projects, including transportation, ports, and energy. His practice focuses advising clients involved in the generation of energy, including hydro, wind, natural gas, and solar projects. He also advises clients in matters related to mergers and acquisitions, joint-ventures, securities, corporate governance and regulatory law.

  • Advising International Finance Corporation on several issues arising from the financing and development of the Penonomé wind power plant.
  • Advised Seven Seas Water (an affiliate of Morgan Stanley Infrastructure) on their acquisition of the indirect holder of the concession to operate the Laguna Alta Water Treatment Plant, in Panama.
  • Advising Avanzalia, Spanish energy company, on the final stages of the development and commissioning of the Penonomé wind power plant.
  • Advised Electron Investment, S.A. in the public offering of corporate bonds for a sum of up to US$ 205 million.
