Overview:

  • Lafarge, a French cement and construction company, and Holcim, a Swiss cement and construction company, have combined to form LafargeHolcim in a €40 billion merger. 
  • In March 2015, Holcim rejected the merger but eventually agreed after the companies revised the terms.  
  • The companies sold assets in 11 countries to complete this merger. This included the sale of certain assets in Western Europe, Canada,  Brazil and the Philippines to CRH for €6.5 billion.
