Overview:

  • Sibanye Gold acquired the Rustenburg mining operations, which includes the Thembelani mine and the Bathopele mine, from Rustenburg Platinum Mines, a subsidiary of Anglo American. 
  • The Bathopele mine covers 17km2 of land and produces 280 thousand tonnes of platinum per month as well as palladium, and should be operational until 2026. 
  • The Thembelani mine covers 31 square km of land. 
  • HSBC Bank acted as financial adviser to the acquirer.
