Overview:

  • Brookfield Infrastructure and Singaporean sovereign wealth fund GIC acquired US-based railroad freight company Genesee & Wyoming (G&W) in an $8.4 billion deal. 
  • G&W owns 120 short line railroads, most of which are in North America. 
  • The $8.4 billion includes about $2 billion in G&W debt. 
  • Citigroup Global Markets acted as financial adviser to the acquirers and BofA Merrill Lynch and Morgan Stanley advised G&W.
  • The transaction is expected to close in late 2019 or early 2020.
