Nidec $1.2 billion acquisition of Emerson Electric business units

Overview:

• Japanese company Nidec has acquired two business units from US automation equipment manufactured Emerson Electric in a $1.2 billion deal.
• The two units are Control Techniques and French-based Leroy-Somer, which Emerson had itself acquired in 1990.
• The deal was announced concurrently with a different sale of an Emerson business unit, and is expected to close by the end of 2016.
• Latham & Watkins (Charles Ruck, Bradley Faris, Pierre-Louis Clero, Olivier du Mottay), Davis Polk & Wardwell (John Reynolds III, Jesse Kramer, Amanda Bradley), and Baker & McKenzie (Peter Strivens, Phelim O'Doherty) advised Emerson.
