Nine and Foxtel A$2 billion acquisition of NRL media rights

Overview:

• Nine and Foxtel have acquired NRL's media rights for A$2 billion.
• The five-year $925 million free-to-air component struck with Nine broke a tradition under which free and pay TV rights have always been negotiated together.  
• The pay TV rights deal involved Foxtel and its owners News Corporation and Telstra, Australia's largest telecommunications company.
