Carlos is an experienced Macau SAR qualified lawyer who joined MdME in 2018 after working in another leading law firm in Macau. Carlos is also a Private Notary admitted since 2020.
Carlos advises corporations and financial institutions on a broad variety of corporate matters, including financial and operational restructurings (merger, de-merger, recapitalization), regulatory compliance, and strategic advice. He has been particularly active in all kinds of M&A deals, including private company acquisitions and disposals in Macau and in other jurisdictions across the Asia Pacific Region. Carlos’s M&A expertise has been recognized in several legal directories, including IFLR 1000, Chamber and Partners, and Legal 500. He has also been recognized as Asia Future Leader 2021 by IFLR.
Within its Corporate Finance practice, Carlos has been focusing also on the Insurance Sector. He has been involved in a wide range of insurance transactional, advisory and product development work, including corporate restructuring, licensing, distribution, preparation of policy documentation and advising clients on the regulatory environment in Macau. He also advises clients on matters relating to insurance intermediaries, reinsurance and other regulatory and compliance matters.
Carlos is very keen in advising issuers, sponsors, and underwriters in initial public offerings of Macau interests in the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, including in the restructuring of Macau businesses in the pre-IPO phase.
Carlos is a key contact in MdME gaming practice where he provides corporate and regulatory assistance to casino operators, sports betting licensees, global gaming exhibitions organizers, online and mobile gaming companies, HK listed Companies with gaming interests all over Asia, gaming equipment manufacturers, gaming sector investors and other relevant players in the industry. Carlos won the award for "Best Industry Rising Star" at 2018 G2E Asia Awards and was recognized as one of the "Emerging Leaders of Gaming 40 Under 40" in 2018.
