Ramón & Cajal has welcomed two new partners into its finance and capital markets teams. The additions will greatly reinforce the firm's capital markets litigation and regulatory muscle in particular, as well as adding more depth and breadth to its banking and finance practice.

The two new arrivals are Cristina Vidal and Idoya Arteagabeitia, both of whom hold the prestigious title of Counsel to the Spanish Government (Abogado del Estado). From 2010-13 Vidal served as director of CNMV's (Spanish Securities Market Commission) litigation and disciplinary department and most recently she was head of institutional and litigation legal advice at Barclays Bank.

Arteagabeitia was part of the Official Credit Institute's (ICO) legal advice department, managing the service for the entire ICO group, which comprises the ICO itself, the ICO Foundation and asset management company Axis.

The recruitment will also serve to increase critical mass after the loss of banking partners Francisco José Bauzá, Rafael Bazán and Carlos Gutiérrez to Baker & McKenzie in July 2013 and capital markets specialist Daniel Alaminos to Abengoa’s in-house team in mid-2014.

The hires were accompanied by the internal promotions of Damián Gaubeka, who becomes a partner in the litigation, insolvency and arbitration department; Leticia Fernández, who becomes a senior associate in the finance and capital markets team; Borja Martín, who moves to senior associate in the corporate department; and Rafael Marco, who is promoted from associate to senior associate in the litigation, insolvency and arbitration practice.
