Pinsent Masons has bulked up its German operation after adding the team of a Munich boutique to its existing offering in the city.

Three years after opening its first continental Europe office in Bavaria’s capital, the international firm has bought the entirety of Mayrhofer & Partner on board. The new hires, who officially begin work at Pinsent Masons on January 1, include four partners: founder, Thomas Mayrhofer, Hans-Ulrich Birkhofer, Alexander Thomas and Gudrun Moll.

Mayrhofer & Partner is focussed on advising on capital markets law advice and, in a statement, Pinsent Masons said the new additions are part of its strategy to secure more work for public companies in Germany.

Earlier in the year, the firm made two lateral partner hires for the Munich office, which specialises in technology, recruiting Clifford Chance’s then head of IP, Marc Holtorf, and Fieldfisher’s office head in Munich, Sibylle Schumacher, whose focus is litigation and arbitration.

Pinsent Masons has been expanding internationally this year too, opening two offices in Australia in March.
