Norton Rose Fulbright has added a new banking and finance partner in Brisbane to reinforce its emergent practice in Australia.

Dale Rayner joins the firm from Clifford Chance in Sydney. He started his career at Minter Ellison in Brisbane, moved to legacy Mallesons Stephen Jaques in Sydney, then to Allen & Overy, Société Générale and HSBC in Hong Kong, before returning to Australia.

Wayne Spanner, Norton Rose Fulbright’s Australian managing partner said of the hire: “[Rayner] is an outstanding lawyer with a unique combination of top-tier banking practice experience and an international financing pedigree. His ability to manage large complex projects and cross border teams makes him an ideal fit for us, and his local pedigree will be tremendously valuable in building our Australian and regional practice.”

Rayner enjoys a strong reputation in Australia for derivatives work, and his practice includes structured finance, aviation finance, asset finance, and debt capital markets.

Speaking to IFLR1000, he said: "I was eager to join a global legal practice that had significant depth of capability in banking and finance in Australia, the Asia region and around the world. I was particularly attracted to its focus on key industry areas – two of which are financial institutions and transport – because that will allow even more focus on myclients’ needs given the sectors in which they operate."

Australia is a busy legal market and the partner hire is Norton Rose Fulbright’s fifth in the country in two years. The firm has also recently brought in construction partner Helene Lee from Clayton Utz, insurance partner Ray Giblett from Gadens and energy and resources partner Keira Brennan from Clayton Utz. But it has lost banking specialist Craig Chapman to Gadens and M&A partner Robert Milbourne to K&L Gates.
