Gibson Dunn & Crutcher has lured a corporate lawyer from Ropes & Gray to its office in San Francisco, in the latest step in the expansion of a practice that benefited from the high-profile addition of former Weil Gotshal & Manges attorney Jay Tabor as a partner based in Dallas in October 2013.

Ryan Murr, a former Gibson Dunn associate, comes to the firm’s San Francisco office as a partner and as co-chair of the firm’s life sciences practice group. Murr specialises in representing public and private companies in securities offerings and business combinations, and acts as outside counsel for venture companies undertaking mergers and acquisitions or reporting to the SEC. He represents investors as well as underwriters. Many of his clients are active in the technology, biotechnology, and medical device sectors.

Murr was the author of a presentation at the ABA / AICPA Summit on Emerging Corporate Governance Trends in Chicago in June 2013, entitled "Facilitating Successful Merger & Acquisitions Transactions."

The hiring of Murr bolsters a corporate and M&A practice identified by Tabor at the time of his hiring as “a premier national and international platform for what I do—high-level M&A transactions—all the resources you need and all the places for that practice.”

Murr was an associate in Gibson Dunn’s Orange County office from 1998 to 2000 before working as a shareholder at Heller Ehrman from 2000 to 2007 and as a partner at Goodwin Procter from 2007 to 2011. He joined Ropes & Gray’s San Francisco office in March 2011 and became its managing partner.
