It has been a lively November according to IFLR1000's selection of deal announcements, with deals across M&A, private equity and capital markets in a diverse range of sectors. The real estate, banking, and energy industries were the most active, and there were a number of landmark transactions in some of the less obvious markets.

French energy company EDF had a particularly busy month with multi-tranche bond issues at an aggregated value of $5.86 billion, and the acquisition of 51% of the reactor business of nuclear and renewable energy company Areva NP; and there was a rare multibillion-dollar inbound private equity deal in Japan where KKR bought a 41% stake in Calsonic Kansei from Nissan Motor for $4.5 billion.

Compared to this time last year, however, deal values have been a little bit lower with Latham & Watkins and White & Case leading the field and Vinson & Elkins, Potter Anderson & Corroon, and Richards Layton & Finger making notable appearances. Yet again, Kirkland & Ellis has seemingly entrenched itself in the top berth with 23 deals in November—its fifth month in a row at the top.

Elsewhere we have seen a number of landmark transactions in Central and Eastern Europe. Mid Europa Partners acquired Profi Rom Food for €533 million from Polish Enterprise Fund VI (PEF VI), which was the largest private equity acquisition in Romanian history; Energo-Pro Varna undertook a €130 million bond issue that was the largest bond issue in Bulgarian history; and Singapore sovereign wealth fund GIC acquired property company P3 Logistic Parks from TGP Real Estate and Ivanhoé Cambridge for €2.4 billion, which was the largest real estate acquisition ever in Czech Republic. Also the National Bank of Canada (NBC) became the first North American financial institution to issue a panda bond with its Rmb3.5 billion ($518 million) offering; and Ctrip, China's biggest international travel site, acquired Skyscanner for £1.4 billion.
