Cox Hallett Wilkinson serves a diverse local and international clientele, providing a wide range of services with a focus that includes corporate and commercial, litigation, real estate and intellectual property. CHW was formed by a merger between two long-established local law firms in 1998, and another merger in 2004 with Hollis & Co. It is the Bermuda member of the Meritas network of medium-sized law firms.
CHW's four-person corporate team advises on a range of activities including the formation of companies and limited partnerships, joint ventures and other commercial organisations, mergers and acquisition of public and private companies, the establishment of investment funds, securities work, and aviation and shipping.
The firm added the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan to its list of clients last year, providing advice on an investment in Mitra Energy, a privately-owned oil and gas exploration company with various investments in Bermuda. The $99 million deal, with the largest single-profession pension plan in Canada, closed in May 2010. In a deal that closed in March 2011, CHW advised Cable & Wireless on its acquisition by Canada's leading cable and telecommunications provider, The Bragg Group, resulting in the end of operations in the jurisdiction after 120 years.
