According to consensus from peers and clients, Mannheimer is currently the top all-round firm in Sweden. One competitor says the firm "have a strong corporate practice in general so they pick up a lot of the top equity deals".

Eva Hägg is the biggest name at the firm in the equity field. One client who has used many of the top firms says "Hägg does an absolutely excellent job, I rank Mannheimer as the best firm in town, they always give quality and attention". Another client rates them top for the "quality in delivery you get from them". Senior associate Anders Linblad is often recommended by peers.

Hägg led a large team to advise the government on an accelerated book building process involving a sale of shares in Nordea Bank in February 2011 to raise €2.1 billion. The sale was part of the government's effort to reduce national debt.

Klaes Edhall advised TeliaSonera on a €1.1 billion share repurchase offer, completed in April 2011, while Hans Petersson led a team to advise Hexagon on its €714 million rights issue in order to finance part of the acquisition of the US based software provider Intergraph Corporation and subsequent to a dual listing in Sweden and Switzerland.

The debt side is led by finance partner André Andersson, who along with Mattias Lampe advised Svenska Hypotekspension on a securitisation of equity release mortgages arranged by Barclays Bank, the first such deal in the Nordic region.

In bond deals, Jan Dernestam advised Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) on bond issuance of €143 million and €75 million under its €1 billion EMTN programme and Andersson assisted Swedish Match on €170 million of buy-back bonds and a new EMTN issuance of €350 million. The firm has also advised banks and a list of other clients on similar deals.

Mannheimer is a solid top tier firm in all walks of corporate finance. "I find it very good," says one long standing client, "I have always seen quality in delivery, we use them for financing and documentation on syndicated loans and they are strong across the board."

"We have used Mannheimer for transactions in faraway places like Hong Kong and even Singapore," says a client, "we always go through them and it works well", while more locally another client praises the firm's Malmö office for being "especially good in infrastructure". Leading lawyer André Andersson is highly recommended by competitors. In January 2011 the firm lost two very well regarded senior associates to Roschier, namely Christoffer Andersson and Harem Mahir.

In a prestigious deal, Andersson led a team to advise a group of Scandinavian governments on a €1.9 billion loan to the Latvian state. Another highlight deal saw Zoran Stambolovski and Jan Kansmark advise Stockholm County Council on a $2.3 billion public-private partnership (PPP) with Swedish Hospital Partners, which includes Skanska and British investment fund Innisfree, to develop, build, operate, maintain and finance the Nya Karolinska Solna University Hospital.

Elsewhere, Andersson acted for DnB NOR, Nordea and SEB for a $953 million refinancing of forestry company Bergvik Skog and Jan Dernestam represented Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) on the $125 million financing from DnB NOR Bank, Nordea and Handelsbanken,

Daniel Karlsson advised Nordea Bank on a $1.03 billion refinancing of entertainment group Modern Times Group, and an SEB and Nordea Bank led syndicate on a $636 million refinancing to Saab.

Mannheimer is very well placed at the moment. "The quality is consistent and they constantly hire, the seventh partner here is probably better than the top partner in most other firms," says a peer. The firm is well embedded with Swedish blue-chips but also has a top private equity practice.

One client uses Mannheimer "for the scale of people, the size and the individual lawyers; in order to manage on the big transactions you need to have this pool to draw on". "They did an excellent job for us," says an insurance client, "they have individuals that understand insurance issues well and they were innovative and creative in finding solutions which were not that normal".

Clients recommend Adam Green for his "creativity and different perspective" and Helsingborg based Johnny Andersson as "always available when we are calling... we feel like we are a priority customer to them". Peers say Biörn Riese "is an icon, the guy to pick".

The firm turns over a high volume of large deals. Among them, Riese, Martin Ericsson, Eva Hägg and Tom Wehtje advised HQ Bank on its sale and merger into Carnegie Investment Bank following HQ Bank's liquidation (also handled by Riese). Johan Lekholm and up-and-comer Patrik Marcelius meanwhile acted for Munters in the high profile $906 million public offer by Nordic Capital owned Cidron Intressenter, completed in November 2010, and the divestment of MSC to Triton, which included transfers of subsidiaries in 15 countries.

The firm advised Q-Med on the $1.1 billion public offer by Nestlé and L'Oreal joint-venture Galderma Pharma. Jan Holmius advised 3i on its $350 million divestment of Ålö to private equity firm Altor, and Green assisted Koninklijke Philips Electronics on its acquisition of the mammography equipment company Sectra.
