Regarded as an active competitor on the market, peers are slightly resentful of IBLaw: "IBLaw are more involved in government work in terms of restructuring regulations than transactions," says one peer, while another complains: "In terms of tier one, IBLaw does get a lot of work but it is not the same quality work the rest [of tier one] gets."
However, the firm has a portfolio of deals and clients which testify to its top-tier rank "They are very responsive," says one client, adding: "They have good relationships which helps to get things done," referring to the firm's good history of working with the state.
The corporate sector has been an active one for the firm and practice head Mohannad Jarar and Lana Alamat represented cigarette manufacturer Philip Morris in acquiring the assets of a major Jordanian manufacturer in April 2011. A further M&A deal saw the firm work in collaboration with Clifford Chance representing the Jordan Media City in the sale of a majority stake of the company.
A highlight deal on the project finance side sees the firm acting for CPCS Transcom, a global PPP company, which is advising the JD2.7 billion ($3 billion) development of a national railway network on a BOT (build-operate-transfer) basis.
