Over the past 12 months, Tsvetkova Bebov & Partners has strengthened its second tier position with another solid year. The firm used to be known as Landwell before local bar rules necessitated the use of the compound name. Furthermore, the firm does not use the network of the brand "Landwell" anymore; however, clients and competitors still refer to the firm under that name for ease of reference and it remains the correspondent firm of PricewaterhouseCoopers. "Landwell is good in financial services," says one competitor while a client adds: "They are exceptional for Bulgaria. They have international experience which is very helpful." The firm is headed by Nikolay Bebov, who has the respect of peers and clients alike.
Another client, full of praise, says: "They were there whenever we needed them. The exchanges were timely and they were available when needed. This took place in August, which is a difficult time for all firms, with many being away on holiday. Yet, I felt no gap in this from them."
In one of the very few M&A deals relating to financial institutions of late, the firm advised KD Group in the sale of their Bulgarian asset management subsidiary and the dissolution of their MiFID investment firm. Additionally, the firm advised KD Life Insurance Joint-Stock Company, Slovenia, in all legal and regulatory matters linked to share transfer, with regard to the sale of shares held in Insurance Company KD Life.
The firm continues to advise on what was the largest banking and private procurement deal in Bulgaria in 2009 (exceeding €71 million before its renegotiation), acting for BH Air, on the lease of two aircraft by the latter to the Bulgarian Ministry of Transport. The firm had earlier advised the same clients on the purchase of these Airbus A-319 from Air Berlin 4. Further arrangements with the lending party extended into last year.
The firm also displayed its niche in the software industry advising Myriad International Holdings on the acquisition of the whole going concern of a Bulgarian internet company.
The firm's innovation has also been observed by clients, with one saying: "Sometimes they take the initiative when there is a new law. They come to us and give us lectures".
