BM International has enjoyed a solid year, continuing to advise some big name clients. The firm has also has a long-running mandate from the International Air Traffic Association, who are looking to set up an office in Azerbaijan.
In terms of deal highlights, a team, led by the "very capable" leading lawyer Farhad Mirzayev and Delara Israfilova, advised Société Générale on the financing for a petrochemical utility in the country.
The same team also advised BNP Paribas (Switzerland) with regards to a large, secured loan to Azerbaijan Railways. This was an update to an award-winning infrastructural finance deal from 2008, and is credited with freeing up goods transportation along the 'Caspian Corridor' between Azerbaijan and Georgia. This extra funding is to go towards the purchase of further pieces of equipment.
The firm also advised the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) on another TMT deal, where the EBRD put investment worth $4 million into Datacell in an attempt to further spread wireless broadband access in Azerbaijan. This deal closed in the summer of 2010.
