Curtis Mallet-Prevost Colt & Mosle performed the coup of the year in 2010, hiring leading lawyer Mary Allan from international rivals SNR Denton. Allan's appointment is seen as an astute move by peers, who expect her to help them accrue standing and share in the market. "It is definitely going to improve them, she is a very good lawyer with a good deal of experience on the energy side," says one peer.
Since her arrival Allan has acted for the Oman Gas Company on the refinancing of its existing facilities for it's Sohar and Salalah pipelines with a $72 million term loan facility through the National Bank of Oman.
Practice head Bruce Palmer has also been active for the firm advising state clients on real estate related matters. In a deal which was finalised in December he advised the Omani Ministry of Defence Pension Fund (MODPF) on it's agreements with a Thai luxury hotel operator, Anantara, for management of a $45 million mountain resort and spa that MODPF will build and own in Jabal Al Akhdar.
A further deal saw Palmer head a team acting for the Oman Tourism Development Company with Starwood Hotels for the management of three new hotels, which Omran, the ministry's investment arm, will build. The hotels are intended to encourage further growth in Muscat's main commercial and tourist hub, where they will be built.
