Muthaura Mugambi Ayugi & Njonjo gets good reviews from the market. Deals are led by managing partner Suzanne Muthaura and partners Waringa Njonjo and Carole Ayugi.
Njonjo is recommended by one peer: "I rate her very highly, she is very competent, we have done some M&A with her and she gets the job done, very eager and is really doing quite well." Njonjo led on two of the firm's notable recent deals, advising Cable Holdings on the $6 million divesture of its entire shareholding in Metal Fabricators of Zambia to Phelps Dodge Africa Cables Corporation.
Njonjo also advised Pan Africa Insurance Holdings and PA Securities on the $11 million divesture of its entire shareholding in APA Insurance to Apollo Investments while, in parallel, Muthaura was acting for LeapFrog Investments on the $14 million acquisition by its Mauritian incorporated fund, LeapFrog Financial Inclusion Fund, of a 25% equity interest in Apollo Investments, the holding company APA Insurance. The Fund is a micro-finance fund with financing from the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the European Development Bank (EIB) among others.
Another interesting piece of work, more related to dispute resolution, saw Carole Ayugi advise the Ugandan National Insurance Corporation on a $6 million on termination rights with the Makerere University Retirement Benefits Scheme.
