"Omni are a firm that have a lot of success with government and state bodies, and they have close connections there," says one peer of the firm, and while Omni has been working with the government in Baku it has also had a number of other mandates that showcase its increasingly international focus.
An example is the team's advice to RBS, who wished to divest itself of assets worth over £3 billion globally. Omni worked on the Azerbaijan section of this, in which RBS disposed of its involvement in the financing for the Baku-Tblisi-Ceyhan export pipeline. The team was led by Roman Alloyarov and Ismail Zargarli, two partners who are usually involved in the firm's headline deals and who both come highly recommended.
The team also advised the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) on an equity investment into Rabita Bank, a rare financing from an international bank under the current slow market conditions.
The firm possesses good relations with the government and one deal arising from this saw the team act for SOCAR (State Oil Company for the Azerbaijan Republic) and the Azerbaijan Investment Company in the initial stages of an ongoing shipyard development project, which will go into the financing stage later this year.
