Firm profile:

TMI Associates ("TMI") has built its practice around a team of lawyers (233 as of July 2011), patent attorneys (52 as of July 2011), and support staff with extensive experience in both domestic and international areas. Its major practice groups include general corporate, M&A, restructuring, financial institutions, banking, capital markets, structured finance, funds, litigation, governance, risk management, labor, anti-trust, tax, intellectual property, trademark/patent prosecution, and IP litigation. TMI collaborates with foreign law firms, accounting firms, tax offices, consulting firms, and other specialized entities to meet its clients' increasingly complicated and varied needs. Furthermore, TMI does not seek to become merely a large-scale firm, but rather it consistently anticipates its clients' requirements to provide superior legal services to the clients. Consequently, TMI is continually facing new challenges.

Working as a single entity, TMI's members share common values, and while respecting each individual's unique traits, TMI has created a comfortable work environment where everyone grows together. TMI is determined to maintain an organization with professionals of the highest level and expertise in all legal fields, resulting in a top-notch law firm that accumulates and shares information and expertise while educating lawyers and staff in order to provide even better services.

Joint Ventures:
Since its establishment in 1990, TMI has constantly focused its efforts on globalization. In 1995, pursuant to the Special Measures Law Concerning the Handling of Legal Business by Foreign Lawyers (also known as the "Foreign Lawyers Law"), TMI established a qualified joint venture ("tokutei kyodo jigyo") with the French law firm, Gide Loyrette Nouel. In 1999, the venture was succeeded by a joint venture with the Laurent Dubois Foreign Law Office, mainly to support companies involved in business transactions between Japan and France, and this joint venture continued until March 2007. In 1998, TMI opened a branch office in Shanghai principally to support Japanese companies conducting business in China. Subsequently, in September 2001, TMI formed an alliance with the UK international law firm, Simmons & Simmons, by establishing a first-of-its-kind qualified joint venture in Japan with the partners on equal footing. Next, in September 2005, TMI established another joint venture with the American law firm, Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, forming Morgan Lewis-TMI. More recently, in December 2006, TMI formed a joint venture with the Wakely Foreign Law Office, in January 2009, with the German law firm ARQIS, and in April 2011, with Ali Al-Kahatani Law Firm, allowing it also to provide expertise about Canadian law, German law, and Saudi Arabian Law respectively.

Through its joint ventures, TMI plans to continue promoting and contributing to globalization to continue being a true example of an international law firm.
