Atieh Associates performed the coup of the year when it hired Cyrus Shafizadeh from fellow tier one firm Tavakoli & Shahabi in January 2011. Market speculation says Shafizadeh's departure was born out of a desire for a more modern approach and the prospect of making partner, but the highly recommended lawyer is by no means the only one who has benefited from the move.
Clients, including several who made the transition with Shafizadeh to the new firm, provided exemplary testimonies. "I worked with him at his previous firm and I have worked with him on a number deals since. He's excellent. He provides excellent quality advice in a format that is perfect for multinational clients who want efficient thorough and high-level advice. His English is impeccable and he operates very much as someone in a top rate English law firm would do," says one.
Another extols: "He's superb I have nothing but praise, hands down the best lawyer I have worked with in Iran. He gets what international clients want in terms of service and advice. He delivers on time, his advice is commercial and he presents well. He is a very good lawyer, the substance of his advice is sound and he gives the client confidence."
The firm concentrates on representing international clients and the UK qualified Shafizadeh will amply compliment it's approach. Having poached direct rival Tavakoli & Shahabi's prize bilingual lawyer and already boasting one of the country's only US qualified lawyers, in practise head Babak Namzi, Atieh has set itself up as an excellent option for its chosen clientele.
The firm's portfolio of recent work amply demonstrates its global client base. Namzi has performed due diligence for a foreign telecommunications company bidding for an operations license and advised on an international freight forwarding company on establishing in the region. In addition to this the practise head has been providing general commercial advice to a foreign Islamic Bank on a number of issues including sharia compliant structures.
Shafizadeh has been active for a foreign oil company in the transfer of its interest in a local petrochemical company.
