"A firm to see," is how one competitor views Paz Horowitz. Founded in 1991, the relatively young firm pushes its way into the second tier this year based on strong market feedback and a wide breadth of financial deals completed in the less than ideal Ecuadorian market. "They've done a good job, especially Jorge Paz Durini, in dealing with many clients," says a rival partner. "He's well-known."
Paz led a team that advised in a merger between a mining company and a services-related corporation. Corporate savings were made through transfers and spin-offs creating two separate entities conducting operations in different fields – one for the production of materials and another for the extraction of materials. The team also advised Canadian-based Ecometals in its $7 million sale of an Ecuadorian affiliate.
In addition to Paz, competitors highlight Bruce Horowitz, a US trained attorney, and Maria Játiva as leading lawyers. Sources note that Játiva is a "well-known banking and financial expert".
